QR or NFC? Honest answer: it depends on the moment.

We won't push hardware on you. The free QR does the job. NFC turns the menu into an experience. Compare and pick yours:

QR code

free

The way to start today

  • Every guest already knows how: open the camera, point, done.
  • Works on any phone with a camera.
  • Comes off your printer: print it, stick it on the table, and it's live.
  • Included in every plan, even Free.

NFC

premium

The one-tap experience

  • No camera, no aiming: touch the phone and the menu opens.
  • Surprises guests the moment they sit down and positions your place as premium.
  • The table stays clean: one discreet sticker tag instead of a stand.
  • From Starter up. Each tag costs about $1 on marketplaces.

No catch: QR and NFC write the same smart link. Start on the free QR today and turn on NFC when it makes sense, without rebuilding the menu or changing the table's link.

Works on iPhone? It does. And writing the tag is simpler than it looks: the guide shows both paths, Android and iPhone, step by step.

Read the writing guide

The tag doesn't store the menu. It stores a smart shortcut.

Each table gets a short link that resolves on our server before the menu opens. That's what a free QR generator can't give you: there, whatever you printed stays printed forever. Here, the destination is yours, controlled from the panel.

Swap without rewriting

Changed the menu, a price or a promo? The tag and printed QR stay the same.

Block a lost tag

Lost a sticker? Disable it in one click and it becomes a dead link.

Move it between tables

Rearranged the room? Repoint the tag to another table from the panel.

New product, straight talk

Tapendo is just getting started. You won't find paid-for testimonials or an inflated customer counter here. You'll find three guarantees you can check yourself, without taking our word for it:

Genuinely free

The Free plan asks for no credit card and never expires. Build the whole menu, stick the QR on a table, and decide with the product running in your own room.

Try the tap for pocket change

An NFC tag costs about $1 on marketplaces. Write one, stick it on a table and watch how guests react before equipping the whole room.

Free to leave

Monthly subscription, no lock-in contract. If you stay, it's because it's working. If not, cancel whenever you want.

Questions from people deciding

Direct answers, no hidden asterisk.

How much does it cost, all in?

The Free plan is $0 forever: a menu with up to 10 items and one table with a QR code. Starter is $49/mo and unlocks NFC on up to 10 tables. Pro is $99/mo with unlimited tables, per-table access counts and call server. You buy the NFC tags separately, for about $1 each. We don't ask for a card to start, and there's no lock-in.

Does it work on iPhone?

For reading, yes, with nothing to install: iPhones released from 2018 on (XR, XS and newer) read the tag automatically. Your guest touches the phone, taps the notification, and the menu opens. Writing the tag is different: Apple doesn't allow writing from the browser. You write it from the panel using an Android, or copy the table link and write it with the free NFC Tools app on the iPhone itself. Want to take it slow? Read the writing guide, step by step.

Where do I buy NFC tags and how much are they?

Search for NTAG215 on Amazon, AliExpress or eBay. In kits of 10 or more, each tag runs about $1. Go for the sticker format, to stick on the table or inside a stand. A 10-table room spends under $10 on hardware, just once.

Does my guest need to install an app?

No. Whoever scans the QR or touches the phone to the tag lands straight on the menu, in their own phone's browser. No download, no sign-up, no permission prompt. You manage everything on the web too. The only app in the story is NFC Tools, which is free, and only if you write tags using an iPhone.

Can I start with just the free QR?

You can, and that's what we recommend. Build the menu on the Free plan, print the QR and test it with real guests. The plan doesn't expire. When you want the tap experience, upgrading to Starter turns on NFC without redoing a thing: the table link stays the same.

What if a tag is stolen or lost?

You block the tag from the panel in one click and it becomes a dead link instantly. Whoever touches it sees nothing, because the tag doesn't hold your menu, it holds only a shortcut you control. Then just write a new tag and point it to the same table, in seconds.
